Tonight, I started to look around the web for our future Vancouver home. We plan on living in the West End, which is in my opinion the most beautiful area of downtown Vancouver. Check out the photos and description on this page, if you haven’t been in the West End before.
Found a really good website with a $20 paid subscription to Downtown listings. Why did we put down money?
- downtown Vancouver properties go like hot potatoes
- high demand means downtown properties don’t advertise
- the most properties do is put up a Vacancy sign and a phone number
- this website will go around downtown, snapping shots of buildings with vacancy, and follow up with their management to get more info, which is then posted on their “Hot List”. numbers where they weren’t able to contact management are still posted as “unconfirmed” listings, and they give us all that they know, a photo, and the phone number.
Here are the places that look interesting. Vancouverites–if you pass by any of these properties, let me know if they look good or not. Non-Vancouverites–requesting feedback. Which ones look good to you?

Hey Kare – What r u looking for in terms of apartments? It’s hard to be looking now – depending on when you’re wanting to move in. If you’re coming back in August-ish, I think the best time to look is late June/beginning of July – for stuff that will still be available. Anyway, I’ve looked at your choices, and here are my comments starting from the bottom of the list to your Top Choices.- Oceanic: how big, which floor? Good area, not too busy (traffic/people-wise), just off of Davie. price OK. convenient, short walk to beach. – Nicola: also good … pretty much same comments as above. restricts you to 1 year, tho’- Harbour View: nice. close to Denman & Stanley Park, a bit of traffic, especially around rush hour (the Lion’s Gate)- Robson: you expect to live in a 450 sq ft. space?! that’s like living in a closet! frankly, 500 sq ft. is cutting it close. hardwood floors do sound nice, tho’, but it’s a STUDIO!- Baltic: probably a good place if you can get in – ‘mature residents’ … will be quiet, good facilities. price isn’t bad. no late nite partying, tho’! Close to starbucks, not that you care …- Pacific Beach: fantastic location, beach-front, but 400 sq ft! ONLY! hope you guys aren’t claustrophobic!- Knightsbridge: again small, also a bit of a walk to anything … – Logan Villa: quiet, close to Robson shopping. small- Comox Manor: no info? price is good, older building, sounds like they’re desperate. Close to Davie & Starbucks. – Carmen Manor: nice place, close to bridge, across from Macaroni Grill restaurant & close to London Drugs & Rogers, etc. walk by it on our way to the beach all the time. $$$- Columbia Place Apts: Nice … I dunno which building this is, the one in the picture has an entrance off Davie and usually has a homeless person or two in front of the entrance – but it’s Jervis, so I’m assuming it’s another building or entrance.Don’t forget you can ask us for help … we can look around for you too. How fixed are you on living in the West End – how about “downtown” or “around the west end”? or even “just across the bridge in kits”? send me an e-mail
